A personal perfume class in a Seoul hanok

PROUST is a scent atelier in Jongno, close to Hyehwa Station and Daehakro. A quiet garden and a room filled with fragrance materials make space for a slower part of your trip: paying attention to what you smell, and discovering how you want your perfume to feel.

You do not need experience in perfumery. You bring your preferences; we help you translate them into a blend. Come on your own, with a partner or with friends, and take home a fragrance you helped create.

A scent atelier since 2015

PROUST began in 2015 and moved its main atelier to Hyehwa in 2019. Founded by perfumer Yumi Han, who studied physics, the atelier brings an interest in literature, art and memory to personal perfume making and commissioned fragrance work.

National Geographic Traveller (UK) included PROUST’s workshops in its 2026 coverage of beauty tourism in South Korea. Read the feature.

What happens during the workshop?

1. Find your starting point

Explore our seven house fragrance bases and choose a direction. Tell us about scents you enjoy, a mood, a colour or a memory. You do not need technical fragrance vocabulary.

2. Explore materials selected for you

Our atelier holds more than 500 fragrance materials. We introduce a curated selection suited to your direction, rather than asking you to work through the whole collection. If you have a particular note in mind, tell us in advance so we can check whether we have it.

3. Blend, smell and refine

Plan your formula, make a trial blend and smell the result. With guidance from the instructor, adjust the balance until the fragrance better expresses what you had in mind. A small change can make a floral perfume greener, a woodier blend softer, or a fresh scent more rounded.

4. Take your perfume home

Complete your chosen perfume option, choose a ribbon colour and personalise your label. Leave with your own bottle: a personal keepsake from your time in Seoul.
